May is JUCO time!!
It is hard to believe that May is here! That means JUCO is just around the corner. For over 60 years, JUCO has played a major role in our city. Grand Junction has been proud to serve as the host for the Junior College World Baseball Series, celebrating it’s 62nd anniversary this year. JUCO begins it’s thrilling week of excitement Memorial day weekend, May 25th, at the beautiful Suplizio Field. In June of 2011, both Ralph Stoker and Suplizio Field underwent an $8.3 million facelift that included replacing the original bleacher sections along the first base line, and the press box adjoining the two fields.
Suplizio Field is named after Sam Suplizio, who briefly played for the Yankees, went on to be an MLB coach and scout before settling in Grand Junction and promoting the JUCO World Series. The field also serves as a playing field for our local high school varsity teams and our Minor League team, the Grand Junction Rockies.
Grand Junction is looking forward to welcoming all talented players, adoring family and fans, to one of the most beautiful and majestic settings to watch and enjoy America’s past time.
